The training sessions organized in the framework of the Umayyad project and implemented by the Public Andalusian Foundation ‘The Legacy of al-Andalus’
The first sessions will take place on 19-20 May in Faro (Portugal).
The Andalusian Public Foundation ‘The Legacy of al-Andalus’ will launch the training sessions designed for the partners of the Umayyad cultural routes project, funded by the ENPI CBC Med programme. The first of these sessions will take place on 19-20 May in the city of Faro (Portugal), in collaboration with the Portuguese partner, the Algarve Tourism Board. The Foundation encourages the participation of local public officials involved in the management, dissemination and promotion of cultural routes. At the same time, it will emphasize the methods used to design the path of the Umayyads in Andalusia. The Umayyad route in Andalusia was developed taking into account factors such as cultural heritage, the services offering and tourism infrastructure. Coherence in the route’s layout was also important. It includes capital cities already consolidated at touristic and cultural levels, and other municipalities with great potential for integration into a circuit of this type. This route goes from Algeciras (Cádiz) to Medina Sidonia (Cádiz), the capital city of Seville, Carmona (Seville), Ecija (Seville), Cordoba, Zuheros (Cordoba), Carcabuey (Cordoba), Priego de Cordoba, Alcala la Real (Jaen, Almuñécar (Granada) and ends in the capital city of Granada.
Transnational route
The Foundation also provides these towns the opportunity to join the transnational route in the second phase of the project; as the goal is to create a transnational touristic itinerary (the Umayyad Route) that will, in turn, have specific routes in each project partner country. All these routes feature rich heritage bequeathed by the Umayyad dynasty in its expansion throughout the Mediterranean. The leader of this project, the Legacy of Al-Andalus, will share its wide experience in the realization of cultural tourism routes in Andalusia that link profound heritage with other gastronomic, natural, active tourism resources. In parallel, each partner will also have the opportunity to present the work carried out in recent months regarding the design and implementation of their respective routes. In short, the Andalusian Public Foundation ‘The Legacy of Al-Andalus’ will present examples of good practices in the management of their routes that can be transferred to the rest of the partners in the design and realization their own.
