Martim Longo

Martim Longo is a village in the Algarve belonging to the municipality of Alcoutim that invites the visitor to the enjoyment of nature.

Although it was already inhabited during the Roman occupation, its foundation is unknown. It experienced a great expansion between the 6th and 8th centuries, which went far beyond the size of the town of Alcoutim. This area was associated with the existence of the wool industry and the fact that many of its inhabitants dedicated to the profitable work of mule-driving. As a matter of historical curiosity, it is worth mentioning the existence of a small community of African origin during that period.
