Sultan Abd al-Hamid II declared on the first of September 1900, the establishment of the Hejaz railway line between Damascus and Medina. Amman / Ma’an railway in Jordan was opened on September 1904. Ma’an building station represents a secondary building terminal in relation to Damascus, a main terminal.
Maan is central to some of the most interesting sites in Jordan. Petra and its ancient suburban caravanserai are of course a must see. In addition to Nabataean, Roman, and Byzantine ancient monuments and archaeological remains in the main city, Petra, one can visit the Neolithic village in suburban Beidha which also includes Mini or Little Petra which is a Nabtaean caravanserai with a small siq and a number of rock carved facades, dams, and cisterns.
